The Royal Birkdale clubhouse is one of the worlds most iconic. History and modernity combine to provide great facilities to sit back and relax after a day of golf.
It was built in 1935 in the art deco style by local architect, George E. Tonge, when he won a competition to design the clubhouse.
Tonge said, “I visualized the kind of clubhouse that I thought ought to intrude itself onto this lovely course. I imagined the lines of a liner at sea; the perfect balance of the ship at whatever angle and from whatever side it was seen.”
The clubhouse interior was refurbished to a very high standard in 2020 keeping the art deco style at the forefront of the design. The carpet in the lounges are very much a talking point, the inspiration for the design being the layout of the golf course itself.
Golfers and accompanying guests are welcome to use the bar and lounges. The Clubhouse opens from 8.00 am daily.
Catering facilities are available in the lounge from 9.00 am to 7.00 pm (6.00 pm on Sundays) between 1 April and 31 October and from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm between 1 November and 31 March. Catering may also be provided outside of these times by prior arrangement. Food can be ordered on the day but it is advisable for parties of 16 or more to book in advance.
Catering in the dining room is only available by prior arrangement for a minimum of 16 and a maximum of 120 people. We offer excellent quality and service with outstanding views of the course and the coastline beyond.
The Royal Birkdale Golf Club offers you the opportunity to enjoy an evening meal following golf in our 'Bistro', situated in the Longhurst Room overlooking the iconic 18th hole. We offer a relaxed, informal bistro menu of the highest quality using locally sourced ingredients, freshly prepared in our kitchen.
Bookings for the Bistro are required in advance with this option being offered between 6.00 pm and 10.00 pm on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays during the season - last orders for food will be taken at 8.30 pm.
